Minimum size for fish

14 May 20261 min read

Everyone who fishes in the sea in Norway must follow the rules on minimum size. The aim is to allow more small fish to live until they are large enough to reproduce.

Mackerel and saithe are exempt
There is no minimum size for mackerel and saithe for recreational fishers, as long as the catch is not to be sold. There is also no minimum size for tusk, catfish and pollack. Common species with minimum size requirements include cod, haddock, crab and lobster.
