Registering your catch – how to take fish home

Fjord Ferie is a registered tourist fishing business, which means our foreign guests can take home up to 15 kilos of fish products.

We register our guests on Gofish.no before they leave home. If we are missing information about the travellers, we send an e-mail to the person who booked the holiday home. We ask everyone to fill in the necessary details so that everything is ready when the holiday begins.

Catch registration is done exclusively online at Gofish.no. This must be done every day by one of the guests, who registers the catch for all travellers collectively.

Upon departure, we send a link with a customs document to the registered e-mail address. The document is presented in the event of a customs inspection, together with the confirmation of the rented holiday home. Make sure you have this documentation – there is one page for each traveller. If multiple e-mail addresses have been entered in Gofish for the travellers, each person will receive their own e-mail.

The regulations from the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries are as follows:

Export quota and fish smuggling
The export quota is 15 kg for guests at registered tourist fishing businesses. You must be at least 12 years old to use the export quota.

Quota and documentation for exporting fish
It is only possible to export fish if you are at least 12 years old and have fished and stayed at a registered tourist fishing business. The export quota is 15 kilograms of fish or fish products. You may bring the export quota out of the country up to two times per year.

From 1 January 2027, the export quota will be reduced to 10 kilograms, up to two times per year.

You cannot bring trophy fish in addition to the export quota.

Tourist anglers must document that the fishing took place under the auspices of a registered tourist fishing business when taking fish out of the country.

These provisions do not apply to catches of salmon, trout, char or freshwater fish.

Minimum documentation requirements for export:
- Name, date of birth and residential address of the person exporting the fish
- Name, visiting address and organisation number of the registered tourist fishing business
- Period of stay and fishing period
- Date of issue
- Name, contact information and signature of the responsible person at the business

The person named on the document must be present in person when the fish is taken out of the country. The documentation is individual – it is not possible to issue documentation for a group.

Fines for fish smuggling
The fines for taking illegal fish out of Norway are NOK 8,000 plus NOK 200 per kilo of fish or fish products.

Fish smuggling is both an environmental and an economic crime. It makes it difficult to maintain a good overview of the resource extraction from the sea, and it undermines the legitimate part of the tourist fishing industry.
